Under the growing popularity of
basketball in Japan, which was largely influenced
by the NBA and Nikes marketing campaign,
Inoue Takehiko created Slam Dunk.
Unlike most of the other
Japanese Manga, this is not a story about
defending the world from aliens. This is not a
story about demons from hell. This is not a story
about super humans fighting against evil nor is
it a story of romance. This is a story about the
sportsmanship and the sheer power of the will to
overcome all barriers, no matter how difficult. This
is story of half comedy half drama about one
teams struggle to become the National
Champions (and one mans struggle to become
a better player and better person).
About the
Author
Since the characters in his Manga are
tall and big, much of the readers would also
assume that Inoue Takehiko might be similar in
size. In contrast, he believes that he is
probably even smaller than a newborn Shaq.
Other than writing Manga, Inoue
also plays ball himself. He has a team called the
Takechans which comprises of his friends and
colleagues. They would play every weekend hoping
one day to meet some challenge. However, he does not believe a single
human being would want to play against them.
Takehiko is most happy when:
When he wakes up on time in the
morning
When praised by someone else
When he "swishes" a shot
When he visits a bookstore
When he has an endless supply of inspiration
When there is no traffic jam
When the seasons change
When he can makes it through a closing elevator
door
When the pen works
