Ikari Gendou
He is NERV’s Commander in Chief. He oversees the entire operation.At first glance, he seems to be a man without care and affection for anyone. He had abandoned Shinji when he was a child and recalled him only because he needed him to pilot EVA-01. However, in episode 5, when he desperately tried to rescue Rei from the plug, we realize that perhaps that he is not completely stone-hearted. In episode 21, when the history of NERV was revealed, it became apparent that Gendou’s heart had been hardened by the “death?of his wife, Yui. Thereafter, Rei appeared with tremendous resemblance to Yui. Perhaps she was a clone of Yui, which explains Gendou’s affection towards her.
